New record for Habitat

Yesterday the weather improved and me and Lukas decided to go fishing again. We went to Azores bank. In the first few hours nothig happened but around 1pm we got a strike from a white marlin. After a short fight we could release it.

Around one hour later we got another strike. This time it was a blue marlin. The fish made a big first run and than it stopped and it was quite easy for us to get the leader and release the fish. It was the 25th blue marlin we caught this season what means a new record for Habitat. We were really happy and decided to go back the marina after that fish.

Both fish on that day ate the Hot Breakfast from Black Bart

No conditions to fish

Saturday 17th we had really strong wind and rough sea. We tried to find a protected area but it was impossible. So we decided after one hour searching to go back to the marina.

Philip and his big blue

On Friday 16th we had a lot of wind and we tried to find a protected area to fish with Philip and Tony. It was the south of Pico. Maybe 45 minutes after we started trolling we got a bite on our short corner but pulled the hook. Nobody saw what it was, but the fish came back and it tourned out that it was a big blue marlin. The fish wanted to eat the Big Rock Plunger but missed it the first time and came again and this time he got the lure and it was well hooked. Philp went to the chair and a big fight began. After the first run the fish turned direction and for a moment we tought we pulled the hook but we didn´t. After 30 minutes we could see the fish the first time close to the boat. But it stayed down and it was impossible to get the leader. We had almost full drag on the fish but it still stayed down. Finally after more than two hours we could get the leader. It was a really huge fish, the second biggest of the season for us. Now another boat came and the boys from Full Pull made some pictures from us with the fish. Thanks for that!!!!!

After that we decided to release the fish and it swam away.

Congratulations to Philip for his really big blue marlin!!!!!!!!!!!

2 nice Blues

Today we fished Azores bank again. It was a cloudy and cold day but the sea was more or less calm. In the morning nothing happened, but around 1pm we got our first bite of the day. Philip was in the chair and the fish went in the dacron on the first run. Philip did a great job and we could back down to fish very fast and after 40 minutes we could get the leader. It was a nice blue marlin around 800 pound, caught on Black Barts Big Rock Plunger.
Just 15 minutes after that we got another strike from a blue marlin. Tony had to fight the fish for 90 minutes untill we could get the leader. The fish was around 700 pound and ate the Abaco Prawler from Black Bart.

Pull the hook day

Yesterday we had calm sea the whole day and we went to Azores bank. After one hour trolling we got a bite from a white marlin but missed it. Another hour later one more white marlin and missed it again.

Around 2pm we got a strike from a blue marlin. Tony went to the chair and after 20 minutes fighting the fish he could release his second blue marlin on this trip. The fish was around 650 pound and ate the Blue Breakfast from Black Bart.

We put the lures out again and just 10 minutes later we hooked a second blue marlin. Philip was fighting the fish but had no luck and we pulled the hook.

Good start for Philip and Tony

On Tuesday 13th we started a five day charter with Philip and Tony from England. We fished in the north of the island. Around noon we got the first bite from a blue and Tony went to chair. After a short fight we could release a 400 pound blue marlin. The fish ate the Big Rock Plunger from Black Bart.
One hour after we released that fish we got a second strike. Now it was Philip who went to chair. The fish jumped a lot and finally we could get the leader and release another 400 pound blue marlin. This marlin ate the Abaco Prawler from Black Bart.

Bad weather

Yesterday it was the last fishing day for Stig but he had bad luck with the weather. In the morning we had rough sea and wind but we could find a protected area in front of the airport. But around 1pm the wind changed direction and now we had no more protection. The sea was so rough that we thought it was impossible to fight a fish in that conditions and so we decided to go back to the marina after a half day fishing.

Lucky Stig

Sunday 11th was day 2 for Stig and we fished the north again. Around the same time as the day before we hooked a blue marlin. Stig was fighting the fish for 45minutes until he could release his first blue marlin on this trip. Th fish was aond 700 pounds and ate the Kona Pro Jet from Black Bart. After that we put the lures back in the water and when I was putting the teaser in the right position a blue marlin came and attacked it. I pulled the teaser out of its mouth and the fish came to the Kona Pro Jet. But the marlin missed the lure and got hooked in the dorsal fin. So a spectacular fight began and it took us 2 hours in rough sea till we could get the leader. The fish was around 750 pounds.

Lost marlin

On Saturday 10th we started a 3 day charter with Stig from Denmark. It was a windy day and we decided to fish in the north of Faial. Around 1pm we got a strike from a blue and Stig started to fight the fish. First it seems that the fish didn´t realize that it was hooked and we could win some line. But after a few minutes the marlin made a big run and it impossible for us to stop the fish. First just on the surface and we tried to follow it but after a while it decided to go down. We could see how more and more line went out and the only way was to stop the fish, otherwise we would have been run out of line. So we put more and more drag on the fish and finally the line broke.
That was the only fish we saw on that day.

Short day and big fish

Yesterday we took a day off because the weather was really bad, but today we wanted to fish again. First we planed to go to Azores bank but on the way there the sea was really rough and we decided to fish in a protected area close to the airport. Just 20 minutes after we put the lures in the water we got a blue marlin bite. On the first run the fish went in the dacron and left the protected area. That made it very difficult for us to fight the fish but finally after 2 hours fight we could get the leader. The fish was around 850lb and after that we decided to go back to the marina. The sea was still very rough and it had been very difficult to fight another fish because it was again just me and Lukas on the boat fishing.

Some more billfish for us

After one day off me and Lukas went out fishing yesterday. It was a little bit windy in the morning but the wind should slow down around noon and so we decided to go to Azores bank. Till 3pm we saw nothing but then we got a bite from a white marlin and missed it, but the fish came back and took the lure again. After a really short fight we could release the fish.

2 hours later we got a bite but nobody saw what it was. While we were clearing the gear the fish stopped to take line from the reel and it looked like we pulled the hooks. But when we got the lure closer to the boat we saw that there was a small spearfish on the hook. We took a few pictures from the fish and released it after that.

Quiet days

On 4th and 5th we fished on Condor bank. We had rough sea and on 4th we missed a white marlin and on 5th we didn´t see anything.

Great day in rough weather

On Saturday 3rd it was windy and rough. We decided to try the south of Faial first and went after 2 hours to Condor bank. Just after we arrived there we caught a mako shark and released it quickly. Just a few minutes after that we got a bite from a blue marlin. After a short fight the fish was tired and we could release it. The marlin was around 750lb and ate the Hot Breakfast from Black Bart.

2 hours later we got another bite and caught the 3rd fish on that day. It was a big spearfish, that we released after a few photos.

800lb

On Friday 2nd we fished on Azores bank the whole day. Around 2pm we caught a nice blue marlin around 800lb. The fish did some spectacular jumps close to the boat.
In the late afternoon we got another bite from a blue but missed it.
